ORED Staff Recognition Event, Jan. 31<\/strong> Join your colleagues on Friday, Jan. 31 at Sun Valley Lanes, 321 Victory Lane, for our annual recognition awards presentation, followed by an afternoon of bowling! Don\u2019t bowl? That\u2019s OK, because cheerleaders are welcome and needed for determining winners of the fabulous bowling prizes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n The recognition awards will be presented shortly after 1 p.m.; party snacks will be provided. Assemble your team and create a team name. When you register to attend \u2013 whether you\u2019re bowling or not \u2013 you will have an opportunity to choose your lane so you can bowl with your team. Registration closes Jan. 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Watch for a\nseparate email with registration details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Contact Laurie Sampson<\/a> or Lisa Maupin<\/a> if you have questions. See you at the lanes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Petrina Suiter<\/strong> joined ORED Dec. 1 as National Recognition and Awards Coordinator. She has a background in the performing arts and arts nonprofit administration and development. Petrina made the move to Canfield from the Lied Center for Performing Arts, where she’d been working as development manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Happy 2020! As we step into the new year, here are a couple of your colleagues’ reflections on the biggest pleasant surprises they experienced in 2019:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Elijah Luebbe, Sponsored Programs: <\/strong>“Having our third child\/first biological child! That was certainly the biggest pleasant surprise.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kacey Nelkin Pedersen, Sponsored Programs: <\/strong>“My biggest surprise\/accomplishment of 2019 was passing the CRA [Certified Research Administrator] exam in May. I set out in January with the goal of sitting for the exam, but the thought of fitting studying into my already packed schedule was daunting. As a mother of three who works full time, I had to squeeze my study time in when my kids were asleep, which meant many 4:30 a.m. study sessions two to three times per week before coming into the office. The hard work paid off when I received my CRA certificate in June! There were times along the way when I wanted to sleep in or push my exam date out to the next testing date or give up altogether, but I didn’t do any of those things, and instead stuck with my plan and was successful, which made me very proud!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Check the January edition of OPEN Book for the next survey question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thanks to all who contributed to this month’s OPEN Book.
