She will be a key player on ORED&#8217;s senior leadership team with her experience in forming interdisciplinary teams, developing early-career faculty and working first-hand as a research administrator at the federal level. Deb, a professor of animal science, has served as interim vice chancellor for research in several capacities beginning in 2011. Since 2009, she has been associate dean of the Agricultural Research Division, part of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.<\/p>\n<h3><em><strong>Upcoming Events<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Concur training sessions, Sept. 5, 20 and 27, and Oct. 11 and 24<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new universitywide travel application, Concur, goes live Sept. 24 and is accessible through the Firefly portal.<\/p>\n<p>For staff who travel and\/or incur expenses, ORED is offering training sessions on the new software. Sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 5, 9-10:30 a.m., and Thursday, Sept. 20, 1-2:30 p.m., in Room 152 of the Paul Research Center. To reserve a seat, email Shelly Cutsor, Mari Greer or Laurie Sampson.<\/p>\n<p>Travel coordinators may attend an extended training session to gain a comprehensive understanding of the system and changes to their responsibilities. To find a training session for travel coordinators, click on the orange UNL Concur Training Schedule tab in Firefly, or click here.<\/p>\n<p>For assistance with the new software system after it goes live, attend a walk-in working session in Room 152 at Paul Research Center. They are scheduled for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thursday, Sept. 27, 9-11 a.m.<\/li>\n<li>Thursday, Oct. 11, 1-3 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>Wednesday, Oct. 24, 1-3 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Attendees can bring laptops, or use one of a few computers that will be set up in the training room.<\/p>\n<p>Concur was developed in accordance with the updated universitywide travel policy and includes new processes that differ from SAP travel:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Travelers are required to submit their own travel requests and expense reports. A travel coordinator may create\/save a travel request or expense report, but Concur requires the traveler to sign in to the application to <em><strong>submit<\/strong><\/em> the document.<\/li>\n<li>Approvers are required to log into Concur to <em><strong>approve <\/strong><\/em>travel requests or expenses; this can no longer be completed over email.<\/li>\n<li>Travel coordinators are titled &#8220;delegates&#8221; in Concur and must be set up by each traveler. They are no longer set up by SAP security.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For questions regarding Concur or the travel policy, contact Melody Stark, University of Nebraska travel manager, 402-554-3456. In 2013, Steve Lee, who founded the Modern Life Podcast Network, heard a radio announcement for National Senior Citizens&#8217; Day, which planted the seed for a day of celebration for podcasting. This is the premier annual meeting for manufacturing research, and Bob is an elected fellow of the organization. He was able to spend time with hundreds of the world&#8217;s best researchers from academia and industry and also meet with key potential funders and collaborators for Nebraska.<\/p>\n<p>Bob spent most of his days in Japan at the conference center, but he and his wife, Lynda, did get out for some sightseeing. They made a day trip to Kamakura to visit some of the many significant Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines located there. Lynda is pictured (bottom left) at the Great Buddha of Kamakura, which dates back to 1252. On the upper left and right, Bob and Lynda are pictured in the dazzling lights of Shinjuku in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>On his way home, Bob stopped in Seattle to join a team of Husker leaders and researchers for a daylong meeting at Microsoft to pursue new partnership opportunities. Cooper Nuclear is an 800-megawatt, highly secured facility located along the Missouri River in Nebraska. The three-hour tour consisted of a visit to the control room, the on-site training center and the cooling water intake structure.
