Memorial Stadium

About this collaboration

A unique and growing partnership between UNL research and athletics promises to expand understanding of the brain and concussions, enhance health and performance research and become a national model for such collaborations.

Nebraska Athletics and the Office of Research and Economic Development partnered to incorporate research space into the East Stadium expansion of Memorial Stadium. Slated for completion in 2013, the expansion includes space for the proposed Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior, which will use cutting-edge imaging technology to better understand the biological underpinnings of behavior and performance, and the Nebraska Athletic Performance Lab, which will focus on research to improve performance and health.

This unique facility and partnership provide a bridge between athletics and academics. Collaborators will include UNL faculty from a variety of departments and key representatives of the athletic department, including future partners in the Nebraska Athletic Performance Lab.

Kickoff retreat

More than 100 UNL faculty, athletics staff and private partners discussed potential research collaborations and the best ways to expand this partnership during an Aug. 23, 2012, retreat, “Building Research Collaborations: UNL Athletics and Research,” at Memorial Stadium. Nebraska Athletics and the UNL Office of Research and Economic Development hosted the retreat.

“Kickoff Conversation,” a report on the retreat, is now available.

Presentations made during the retreat also are available.
