Scientists, inventors and entrepreneurs can transform cutting-edge concepts into game-changing reality at Edgeworks, launched in 2024 by the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Created with $625,000 from the University of Nebraska system\u2019s Nebraska Research Initiative, Edgeworks is the state\u2019s only arts-based core research facility and among the first in the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cWe are building an ecosystem at the intersection of media arts and science that will enable new pathways to fuel economic growth in Nebraska,\u201d said Ryan Schmaltz, Edgeworks director. \u201cEdgeworks is attracting projects with opportunities that prepare, attract and retain talent within the\u202fstate.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Techniques such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, game development, augmented reality, data visualization, physical immersive installations and robotics are used to elevate outreach for scientific research, to produce out-of-the-ordinary content with emerging forms of storytelling and to contribute to industry-sponsored research and\u202fdevelopment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edgeworks is sparking interdisciplinary faculty collaborations and industry partnerships. Examples include building virtual replicas of quantum physics concepts; developing an app to improve the health and well-being of rural Nebraskans; and creating the interface of a \u201cdigital twin\u201d of the human immune system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur faculty are already engaged in national and international research, and this core research facility only amplifies, diversifies and expands our research and innovation abilities and impact,\u201d said Megan Elliott, endowed director of the Carson Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
