


{"id":926,"date":"2013-10-09T21:53:37","date_gmt":"2013-10-09T21:53:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/research.unl.edu\/annualreport\/2013\/?p=926"},"modified":"2013-11-05T17:07:23","modified_gmt":"2013-11-05T17:07:23","slug":"book-opens-cather-letters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.unl.edu\/annualreport\/2013\/book-opens-cather-letters\/","title":{"rendered":"<h2>Book Opens<\/h2> <h1>Cather Letters <\/h1>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Famed Nebraska author Willa Cather, one of the 20th century\u2019s great literary voices, was a prolific letter writer who scrawled her most intimate thoughts to friends, relatives and colleagues.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Terms of Cather\u2019s will concealed these letters from public view for nearly 70 years, until the April 2013 publication of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.randomhouse.com\/book\/217597\/the-selected-letters-of-willa-cather-by-willa-cather\" target=\"_blank\"><em> The Selected Letters of Willa Cather.<\/em><\/a> The groundbreaking book features more than 550 of Cather\u2019s letters. Co-editors Andrew Jewell of UNL and Janis Stout, Texas A&amp;M professor emerita, present the letters with historical and biographical context to guide readers through Cather\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>The book, published by Cather\u2019s former publisher Alfred A.
