ARRA research news

Through the American Recovery and Investment of 2009 (ARRA), the U.S. is investing in science, technology and engineering research and infrastructure to stimulate the nation's economy and bolster the nation's research capacity. ARRA funding that University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty receive through competitive grants from federal agencies is supporting research across many disciplines. ARRA funding is helping to expand research and economic activity and spur innovation to address major challenges facing Nebraska and the nation. Clues could aid human health

A tiny mouse living high in the mountains is providing evolutionary clues that might someday help people with blood and lung disorders.

UNL evolutionary biologist Jay Storz is comparing the genetics of deer mice living at high altitudes with their relatively oxygen-rich lowland cousins to understand how animals evolve to adapt to low-oxygen environments. A $220,774 American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) grant from the National Institutes of Health’s Heart, Lung and Blood Disorder Institute is enabling Storz and colleagues to expand their ongoing, NIH-funded research.
