Post-Award Training and Development

Effectively Managing your Grants and Contracts (.ppt):

What information do you, as the Principal Investigator, need to be successful in managing complex projects that can involve both multiple institutions and multiple departments within the same institution? What can PIs and others do during the proposal process to ensure that the proposal goes out correctly and on time? What are the post-award issues connected with these projects? Topics include: pre-award costs, management and reporting; direct vs. indirect costs; extensions; closeouts and audits.

Life Cycle of an Award (.ppt):

This session will cover all aspects of an award's life cycle from proposal preparation through audits. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: pre-award costs; direct vs. indirect costs; reporting requirements; allowable costs; subawards; closeouts and audits.

Determining and Documenting Allowable Costs (.ppt):

OMB Circular A-21 establishes the principles that colleges and universities must follow to determine the costs of federal grants, contracts and cooperative agreements. This session will explain the basic features of these principles including allowable and unallowable costs; direct and indirect (F & A) costs, and basic tips related to A-21 compliance as well as proper ways to document these transactions.

Personnel Activity Reports (PARs) (.ppt):

Personnel Activity Reports (PARs) are UNL's means of reporting "effort" for sponsored projects. Effort reporting remains the Number 1 issue for audit compliance. This training focuses on effort reporting fundamentals and systems plus potential audit problems and the kinds of actions that may be taken to ensure compliance.

Closing an Award (.ppt):

You've been funded! Great! Let's Talk Closeout. In this session, we will take a look at ways to start the closeout conversation at the beginning of the award so that you (and others) aren't reacting at the end of an award. Workflow messages (in SAP) which should be used to trigger closeout procedures and ensure compliance are included among the session topics.
