AALAS Learning Library offers animal care training

The American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Learning Library offers online training for researchers, veterinarians and others who work with animals in research or education settings, including some required courses.

The site contains the General Regulation Training required for all UNL personnel who handle animals on campus or at facilities across the state. This training is required every five years. Species-specific training and courses for Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) members also are available.

Courses emphasize appropriate handling, care and use of animals. They are designed to help participants study for AALAS certification, meet training requirements of regulatory agencies and improve technical knowledge.

Step-by-step instructions for enrolling are available on UNL's Research Responsibility IACUC quality assurance Web page.

When training is completed, participants should print two certificates, keeping one for their personal records and mailing the other via campus mail to IACP, 110 Mussehl Hall, 0720.

For more information contact Kathy Ellenbolt, IACUC compliance and training coordinator, kellenbolt2@unl.edu, 472-4466.
