Weissinger, Paul assume new responsibilitiesEllen Weissinger was named dean of graduate studies and Prem Paul became vice chancellor for research and economic development earlier this year.Weissinger, a professor of educational psychology, had been executive associate dean for graduate studies since 2002. She succeeds Paul as dean. Her previous administrative appointments include associate dean of Teachers College and interim director of both the Buros Institute of Mental Measurements and the Women's Studies program. The Board of Regents approved her appointment and Paul's added responsibilities in January. "Ellen brings a great combination of experience, enthusiasm and fresh ideas to this position," Paul said. "As executive associate dean, her leadership was pivotal to many improvements in our graduate studies program. She's already at full speed, and I know even greater things lie ahead." The title of vice chancellor for research and economic development is new to UNL. Chancellor Harvey Perlman said that adding economic development to Paul's responsibilities as vice chancellor for research reflects the university's increasing emphasis on economic development and Paul's strength in expanding research and business opportunities in Nebraska. "Vice Chancellor Paul has been instrumental in expanding our research enterprise and in searching for ways to leverage that research for economic growth in Nebraska," Perlman said. "Increased opportunities build on success, and I believe the university will be better served if he can focus his considerable energy in these areas." | |
