UNL ranks 8th in 'Best Places to Work' survey
UNL climbed to eighth place among U.S. academic institutions, up from 28th last year. Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston was the top ranked place to work in academia. The magazine invites readers who identify themselves as being in tenured or tenure track positions to complete a non-scientific online survey. The survey asks about working conditions and environments through 39 questions. This year's results were based on 2,072 useable responses. Results were featured in the November issue of the magazine. The article about the survey featured UNL virologist Charles Wood, the Lewis Lehr/3M University Professor of Biological Sciences. Wood told The Scientist that UNL is "definitely, without reservations" the best place he's worked because of the people he works with. Others taking the survey ranked peer relationships as the most important factor in a great work place. The top 10 best places to work were: 1, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston; 2, National Cancer Institute-Frederick, Frederick, Md.; 3, Clemson University, Clemson, S.C.; 4, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.; 5, Trudeau Institute, Saranac Lake, N.Y.; 6, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis; 7, J. David Gladstone Institutes, San Francisco; 8, UNL; 9, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas; 10, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. | |
