Future of Water for Food conference May 4

Future of Water for Food conference May 4

Growing more food with less water is one of the greatest challenges facing the global community. The Future of Water for Food conference will bring together experts from around the world to discuss this challenge and the use of water for agriculture.

The conference, to be held May 4 at Hardin Hall, will feature a keynote address by Jeffrey S. Raikes, CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and speakers and panel discussions on key issues in science, policy and the human dimensions of the use of water for agriculture.

A goal of the conference is to explore how a Global Water Institute to be established at the University of Nebraska can bring a global perspective and expertise in many disciplines to research and policy focused on the management of water for agriculture. The Global Water Institute, to be located at UNL, will be committed to helping the world efficiently use its limited freshwater resources to ensure a reliable food supply. UNL has a long tradition of leadership in research that integrates water science, agriculture, natural sciences, economics, engineering, computer science, policy and law to address water quality and quantity challenges. More than 100 faculty members in many disciplines currently support this work.

The Future of Water for Food conference is free and open to the public. It is made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Robert B. Daugherty Foundation and the University of Nebraska Foundation. View a full agenda and register at the conference Web site.
