What's in your freezer?

What's in your freezer?

How many cell lines, antibodies, vectors, plasmids and other types of biological materials are frozen and forgotten all over campus? Many UNL researchers develop useful biological materials in the course of their research, but simply keep them in storage or dispose of them when they are no longer needed. However, such materials may be commercially useful.

UNL has licensed materials like these to companies for research and development purposes and for use in marketable products. In return, companies and other organizations have provided research funding and shared their own biological materials with UNL researchers. This exchange results in fruitful collaborations for faculty, the licensee and the university.

The Office of Technology Development can help researchers determine the value of their biological materials. Contact OTD before disposing of something that someone else might find valuable.

For more information contact Nick Aliano, licensing manager, Office of Technology Development, naliano2@unl.edu, (402) 472-3680.
