On this site, you will find descriptions of units at UNL that foster and ensure responsibility in the conduct of research. You’ll also find links to relevant University policies and government guidelines related to the research enterprise and to educational and training resources.

The Office of Research Responsibility consists of three units: Research Compliance Services, the Institutional Animal Care Program (IACP) and the Export Control Office. ORR also works closely with other university offices to ensure research safety.

RCS manages the Human Research Protections Program, which oversees human participation in research, including the management of the Institutional Review Board that reviews and authorizes study protocols for research with human subjects. RCS also provides educational activities to strengthen the responsible conduct of research; manages the process for research-related interest disclosure and management, including the Conflict of Interest in Research Committee; and conducts any research misconduct investigations.

The Export Control Office is responsible for informing members of the university community about federal export control regulations that affect their work and for helping researchers comply with these regulations. The Office of Research Responsibility also jointly manages safety activities with Office of Environmental Health & Safety Services, including administration of the Institutional Biosafety Committee and the Radiation Safety Committee, and provision of training in laboratory procedures for university personnel.

IACP is the primary unit responsible for monitoring and maintaining the health of non-human vertebrate animals in the teaching, service and research missions of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The office provides campus veterinary services, coordinates animal health care oversight for the satellite facilities using animals around the state, and ensures compliance with all regulations and policies pertaining to animal welfare. IACP also manages and provides professional guidance to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and oversees participation in the Occupational Health and Safety Program for employees with animal contact.
