Export Controls

Export controls are federal laws and regulations that restrict the use of, and access to, sensitive information, technology, software, biological and chemical agents, equipment, and know-how for reasons of national security or protection of trade.

Although most activities pursued by UNL researchers are not subject to export control regulations or licensing requirements, each member of the university community must be familiar with these regulations and seek appropriate guidance to meet any applicable export control regulations. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has established an Export Control Program and has developed policies and procedures to help faculty and staff in cases where export controls apply.

Export License – issued by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) authorizing an export, reexport, financial transfer, and other regulated activities.
