Excavators are carving out the footprint of a new home for physics and astronomy. Funded by the Nebraska Unicameral, construction of the $37 million Physical Sciences Building has started along 16th Street, west of the Walter Scott Engineering Center.

A University of Nebraska-Lincoln computer-based model helps cattle feeders and nutritionists better calculate feeding ethanol byproduct feeds to their herds. Cattle CODE -- Coproduct Optimizer Decision Evaluator -- evaluates the economic returns of feeding byproducts compared to a diet with no byproducts, said Galen Erickson, UNL beef feedlot nutrition specialist.

Computer scientist Myra Cohen recently won a five-year, $400,000 Faculty Early Career Development Award to develop algorithms to better test highly configurable software systems, such as Web browsers and databases. The National Science Foundation gives CAREER Awards to outstanding pre-tenure faculty to help them develop as teacher-scholars and researchers.
