Ian Fisk earned his Ph.D. in 1999 from the University of California, San Diego, where his research involved searching for the Higgs boson at CERN on the Large Electron-Positron accelerator. After completing his degree, Fisk worked on the Large Hadron Collider, helping set up the first prototype Tier-2 analysis facility to commission the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid. During the pre-run preparation period, he was responsible for CMS computing integration and worked through several service challenges to ensure the experiment’s readiness. Fisk was CMS computing coordinator from 2010 to 2014, during which he supervised computing operations, planning and development through the first run.
